Federal tax-credit update for 2026
The IRS states that the Section 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit is not allowed for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Heat pumps installed in 2026 do not qualify for the former federal credit of up to $2,000.
State, utility, Tribal, and federally funded Home Energy Rebate programs may still be available. Rules, launch status, funding, and preapproval requirements vary by location. Confirm eligibility with the program administrator before purchasing equipment.
